Danish Roots, Brazilian Soul Isa Nielsen is a Danish-Brazilian guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter whose electrifying presence has made a lasting impact on the rock and heavy metal scenes. Born on December 8, 1991, in Herning, Denmark, she moved to São Paulo, Brazil, at the age of two, where her passion for music ignited at an early age.
The Journey Begins Isa began studying guitar at 14 and soon formed her first band. Her dedication led her to study under renowned guitar instructors, honing her skills and developing a sound that blends precision, power, and emotion. By 19, she showcased her talent on national television, performing as part of the backing band for the TV show “Idols,” marking the start of her professional journey. Isa also appeared on MTV’s reality shows “Rocka Rolla” and “World Rock Day.”
Rising Through the Ranks Isa’s breakthrough came when she joined the iconic heavy metal band Detonator e as Musas do Metal, earning recognition as a dynamic stage performer. She contributed to the band’s album “Metal Folclore: The Zoeira Never Ends…” and the live double DVD “Live inSana,” released in 2015, delivering high-energy performances. She also performed at the 2012 MTV VMB.
Her talents extended beyond Detonator e as Musas do Metal. In 2016, Isa joined Robertinho de Recife’s band Metal Mania, performing across Brazil. In 2017, she joined the all-female thrash metal band Volkana, captivating audiences nationwide. That same year, she shared a life-changing moment, jamming with Steve Vai during his soundcheck in São Paulo for the Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Tour.
Forging Her Own Path Isa’s desire for creative freedom led her to pursue a solo career, expressing herself fully as a guitarist and vocalist. In 2014, she released her debut album, “Break The Chains,” featuring powerful collaborations with artists like Valdson Leme. In 2018, she performed at the Samsung Best of Blues and Rock festival, opening for legends Tom Morello and John 5. She also played at the NAMM Show in the U.S., joining Derek Day on stage.
A Milestone Year In 2019, Guns N’ Roses featured Isa’s rendition of “Sweet Child o’ Mine” on their social media, garnering over 3.6 million views. In the same year, she formed the band Distorted Duo and delivered a captivating performance at Rock In Rio. Isa also starred in Aria Noir’s music videos “Light of Night” and a rendition of Corey Hart’s “Sunglasses at Night.”
Adaptability and Innovation During the pandemic, Isa contributed to recording projects across the globe, including the U.S., Germany, India, Pakistan, Canada, the U.K., Qatar, and Hong Kong. In 2021, she hosted the Masterclass “Exploring the Significance of Art and Culture through Instrumental Music” during the Samsung Best of Blues and Rock festival. That year, she produced a promotional video for actress Flávia Alessandra for a Hard Rock Hotels campaign, skillfully using deepfake technology to embody the actress while playing guitar.
Continued Success In 2022, Isa launched her inaugural online guitar course while composing new material for her next album. In 2023, she released singles “Leech” and “Rollercoaster,” performing live across Brazil and appearing on SBT’s The Noite with Danilo Gentili TV show.
